06 / WHY THIS EXISTS
Running to the beat
is the unlock
When I began running, it was a grind. Like anyone starting out, I wanted to do it right and stay in one piece. So I read up on technique, and the advice kept circling back to one thing: cadence. Keep it in the right range and your form holds, the pounding eases, and you greatly reduce your risk of injury.
And then I came across the term: steps per minute. SPM. I immediately thought: SPM? BPM! Wait, could I match my songs to my steps and let that guide my cadence?
So I tried it, and next thing I knew, I was locked in. It started to feel like a game, and running went from a grind to something I looked forward to. I started collecting songs that were in the right BPM range, and I got hooked.
I built Rungroove to share the thrill of that locked-in feeling with runners who love
music the way I do.
